Tregole 2025 "Chicchero" IGT Toscana 750mL

Sophie Conte's "Chicchero" is a relatively rare Sangiovese from the Chianti Classico region that is not used to produce a Chianti Classico. It's a wonderfully refreshing, savoury and textural wine made as a white that can't help but get just the slightest blush of pink, though you may not notice that in the glass. Initially created as an experiment while waiting for vines that were too young to produce the better known red, she has found something special here. A few parcels of vines are now reserved to keep producing it.

The '25 vintage goes back into a dark bottle to protect its delicate flavours. It's a touch rounder than the '24 at the request of Sophie's mum Edith; just a few grams of residual sugar were left. Not noticeably sweet, but perfectly balanced. Pairs nicely with a tomato bruschetta, but a cool evening and a toasted cheese sandwich works a treat too.

It's still a wonderful wine that defies easy categorisation.
