Collection: Domaine Sohler Les Vigneronnes - Alsace
The story of Domaine Sohler in Nothalten, Alsace, is one of tradition, passion and, more recently, tragedy and strength.
Since the 1640s, the Sohler family has worked the land in Alsace, but it was just 1964 when the Domaine first marketed wine under it's own label. That effort, led by the current winemaker's grandparents, was continued by Christine and Philippe Sohler (from the right of the picture) in the 1990s and since the 2020s, by their daughters Lydie & Marine Sohler (from the left of the picture).
Tragically, Lydie passed away in 2024, leaving Marine to lead the Domaine with her parents' support. On our first visit, it was impossible to leave with anything but admiration for Marine's strength, passion and desire to continue the project of building the renown of the Domaine that she had started with her sister.
In honour of her sister, her own role, and the generations of women before them, Marine is building a new identity for the Domaine; shifting from Domaine Sohler Philippe (her father's name) to Domaine Sohler - Les Vigneronnes (French for female winemakers).
We import a single exceptional wine from Domaine Sohler. We usually only work with one producer per region, but were so blown away by the quality of a Pinot Noir they produce that we made an exception for it. In a sign of shifting expectations driven by climate change, we think Alsatian Pinot Noir has a very bright future. The Cuvée Mateo Pinot Noir by Dionysos from Domaine Sohler rivals the best of Burgundy at significantly lower price.
