Domaine Sohler 2024 Pinot Noir "Cuvée Mateo by Dionysos" 750mL

There were only 1000 bottles of this wine made, and as winemaker Marine Sohler explained to us, it is the product of very careful selection. She has three Pinot Noir plots that could go into this wine, her top cuvée, but each year, she blind tastes the grapes and juice from the different plots before deciding which is the best quality for barrel ageing. Each year, the same plot wins. She thinks it's due to the sandstone subsoil, and the complex minerality that brings. It is certified organic & biodynamic.

Pinot Noir in Alsace historically had a difficult time ripening, but with climate change, it is now enjoying perfect growing conditions. This wine is hand harvested, aged in barriques for 12 months, and not filtered. The secondary flavours and fine tannins from the oak are well integrated, perfectly supporting the fruit.

It's earthy with ripe fruits, red and black cherry most prominent, and forest floor on the nose and palate. Can age for a decade at least. Marine favourite pairing is with a local Alsatian cheese, Munster, which is a semi-soft washed rind cow's milk cheese.
