Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Vino Cammino?
We're a small Australian family business importing artisan, sustainably made wine from France and Italy. We lean towards French whites and Italian reds, though there are plenty of excellent exceptions, with a soft spot for wines made by women. We started Vino Cammino after living in Italy and France in 2023, because we wanted to share the wines we'd fallen for, and support the people who make them, with wine lovers back home.
What kind of wine do you sell?
Imported French and Italian wine that we love and want to fill our own cellar with. In practice that means mostly French whites and Italian reds. Everything we sell is made sustainably, and we offset our estimate of the carbon footprint of every bottle.
Do I have to subscribe, or can I just buy some wine?
You can just buy whatever you like, whenever you like, so long as it is in multiples of 6 bottles (that makes our packing and shipping more efficient). Most of our customers do exactly that, ordering from our range as the mood takes them. No subscription, no commitment. If you don't want to make all the choices yourself, you could start by taking a look at our curated packs. If, however, you do like the idea of a wine club, or a wine subscription, take a look below.
How does the wine subscription work?
It's completely bespoke. We tailor it to your taste, your budget, and how often you'd like wine to arrive, and we'll change any of that whenever you ask. If you'd rather just be sent wine you'll love without having to think about it, this is the easy way to do it. You can find the details on our Subscriptions page.
Can I give a subscription as a gift?
Yes. Some customers have gifted several subscriptions to their loved ones! If you'd like to give someone a subscription, just ask and we'll set it up however you want it for them.
Do you discount your wine?
Yes, sometimes. We never do massive markdowns, because we try to keep our margins fair all the time. We offer members of our newsletter mailing list a standard discount on all orders (sign up here), and occasionally we offer larger discounts for very particular circumstances like our pre-arrival sales and EOFY sales. Our curated packs also have saving built in.
Where do you deliver, and can you reach me?
Anywhere in Australia that Australia Post services, which is very nearly everywhere. If you want our wine, we'd be surprised if we couldn't get it to you. In Sydney we'll often have it to you within a few days, and elsewhere it's usually within the week, though now and then it takes a little longer. When the weather turns hot we'll deliberately hold off on sending until it's safe, because heat in transit can ruin a good bottle. Shipping is always free when you buy wine in multiples of six. Just occasionally we'll charge for a few items, like our wine carrier bag.
How much does the wine cost?
Our bottles start in the $30s and run up to a few hundred dollars, with the average sitting around $80. If you're wondering why fine wine costs more than the cheap supermarket stuff, we've written a whole article explaining our thinking: Yes, our wine costs more.
What do you mean by "sustainably made"?
It's about how the wine is grown and made. Many of our producers are organic and/or biodynamic. Some aren't certified, either because they choose not to chase certification or because their climate makes it too hard, but none of them farm industrially, and all of them work to keep their environmental footprint as small as they can. On top of that, we offset the estimated carbon footprint of every bottle we sell.
Are your wines carbon neutral?
We don't claim that, because "carbon neutral" is a slippery thing to prove and we'd rather be straight with you. What we do is estimate the full footprint of each bottle and offset it, and, if anything, we think we over-estimate the footprint before we do. Our estimate is meant to cover the glass bottle and other materials, the farming, making the wine, shipping it to Australia and storing it here, final delivery to your door, and recycling the bottle. There's more on our Approach to Carbon page.
Who chooses the wines?
Surya and Josh do, together. Surya is the palate of the business, but deciding what to import is a joint effort. We're a small family operation, so the range stays curated. We only sell wine we'd happily drink ourselves.
Do you sell to retail consumers or wholesale restaurants, wine bars and bottle shops?
We sell our wine to (almost) whoever wants it. In practice, we have a balanced approach with much of our wine sold directly to our mailing list, and the remainder to some of the top restaurants, wine bars and bottle shops in the country. If you are a trade customer, reach out to us for our trade catalogue.
