Tregole 2022 Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione 750mL

Gran Selezione represents the best of Chianti Classico estates - accounting for only 5% of production from the region. In Tregole's case, it is a single vineyard from vines of more than 50 years of age. The vineyard is a little higher elevation than the Riserva, and grows in a more grey-blue sandstone (Macigno) than the Albanese & Galestro mix that the Riserva grapes grow in, so you get pure elegance and fruit that leans more toward red and blue than black. Sophie carefully balances this graceful wine with oak: 50% ages in 700L tonneaux and 50% in a 16hL old oak tank.  2022 was a hot and dry year - these are the years when the high altitude vineyards of Tregole really make Sophie's wines stand out. None of the too rich, too alcoholic stuff that comes off of the lower altitude estates. The freshness of this wine makes it a standout for the region.
