Tregole 2021 Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione 750mL

Gran Selezione represents the best of Chianti Classico estates - accounting for only 5% of production from the region. In Tregole's case, it is a single vineyard from vines of more than 50 years of age. The vineyard is a little higher elevation than the Riserva, and grows in a more grey-blue sandstone (Macigno) than the Albanese & Galestro mix that the Riserva grapes grow in, so you get pure elegance and fruit that leans more toward red and blue than black. Sophie carefully balances this graceful wine with oak: 50% ages in 700L tonneaux and 50% in a 16hL old oak tank.  The 2021 was an excellent vintage and will benefit from ageing - grab a few and check in on it over the next decade (or several decades if you have the patience).

Tasting note from Walter Speller on JancisRobinson.com: "Deep crimson. A fantastic mineral-driven nose with embryonic fruit. Compact, succulent red fruit on the palate with a layer of finely ground tannins. Long, wired and concentrated and with a near-perfect balance."
