Domaine Conte et Filles Cognac - Fine Champagne Heritage 40% 700mL

This is a bottle for milestone birthdays. With an average age of 35 years, this Cognac delivers an unforgettable experience in a glass. Blending cognac across multiple generations of production has us wondering if these bottles belong in our warehouse, or in a museum. A blend of Grand and Petit Champagne plots.

We do our best with words in our tasting notes, but it’s genuinely hard to capture the Héritage in prose. It delivers complexity and length that is unmatched by anything that has passed our lips to date.  It has a beautiful intense amber colour with aromas of leather and grilled prunes. The French would say there’s a distinct cigar box on the nose, but Australians might recognise a Mallee stump smoking away on a campfire. On tasting, the flavours will stay with you for several minutes after each sip, winding through walnuts, candied apricots, sweet paprika and a hint of saffron among so many others. The Conte sisters recommend pairing this with a 36 month comté, but we were lucky to have a piece of Section 28’s Monforte Reserve, one of the few pairings we thought worthy of this gem. The Conte sisters recommend you find a comfortable seat to allow this Cognac to unfurl over several hours. We couldn’t agree more.

We know the Héritage is a real investment (though good luck finding a better priced Cognac of this age and quality), but we also know you won’t be disappointed.
