Cecilia Monte 2022 Barbera d'Alba DOC "Maria Teresa" 750mL

We bring a few wines from Piedmont that are not Nebbiolo and yet are grown in prime Barolo / Barbaresco cru soil. This Barbera is one of them, grown within the Serracapelli Barbaresco cru. Of course, it's not Nebbiolo, so it's not Barbaresco, but the location of the vines gives you a signal as to how seriously Cecilia treats this wine. 

100% Barbera from a single vineyard with 50 year old vines. Mixed format oak. If you think you know Barbera d'Alba, you need to try this wine. Cecilia names it 'Maria Teresa' after her mother. Her description of it is 'untamable', 'a Barbera without compromise where power and light blend and balance out.' We couldn't put it better.

The 2022 is big. Inky in colour. 15.5% alcohol but that power is perfectly hidden among the ripe black fruits. Fans of SA reds will find something familiar here, and yet, the meaty, prosciutto aromas will transport you directly to Italy. After an hour or so of air, the fruit aromas are joined by the scent of a bouquet garni. We had it with a salty bistecca and chips - yum.
