THE OLD ORCHARD, PENROSE

The wine on your kitchen bench

Tregole Chianti Classico, made by Sophie Conte in the hills of Tuscany between Florence and Siena. Chosen by Stephen and Rivka for the cool nights in Penrose, and imported from Sophie by our friends at Vino Cammino.

Made at high altitude, for evenings by the fire

Sophie's vineyards sit between 500 and 600 metres altitude, some of the highest in Chianti Classico. Cool nights up there keep the Sangiovese bright and savoury rather than heavy, so it drinks beautifully with a fire going and something cooking slowly in the oven.

Aged in concrete rather than oak, which helps to maintain the freshness of the fruit.

Serve at around 20 degrees, or cooler. Best after 20 minutes of air.

Sophie Conte, Tregole

Sophie has revitalised her family estate since taking over in 2014. Wine has been made on those hills since 1003, which puts a quiet weekend in the Highlands in some perspective.

She is passionate about what she does and we source her wines directly from the importer.
