Il Colle di Carli 2020 "Bosco" Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 750mL

"Finally! A lifelong dream: the first bottling made solely from the grapes of the Bosco vineyard. It deserved its own identity."

This is Caterina's succinct explanation for creating her first cru Brunello from the 1 hectare organic Bosco vineyard. We could not be more excited to offer this incredible wine. Our allocation is just 6 cases for the 2020.

Uses the same winemaking as her estate Brunello (40 months in large, old Slavonian oak), allowing the extreme quality of the fruit to shine through.

In 2020, bud-break occurred just after a spring snowfall, narrowly escaping damage to the buds. A fairly rainy June followed by a dry, hot July created ideal conditions for the vines. The day/night temperature variations ramped up the flavour complexity. Rainfall was significant, but patience allowed Caterina to harvest grapes with a perfect balance between technological and phenolic ripeness, along with a significant aromatic component.

Here are Caterina's notes in advance of our own reflections once it is landed in Australia. 

"Intense, bright ruby red colour. On the nose, hints of myrtle and carob stand out. An explosion of aromatic herbs follows—helichrysum, calamint, lavender, and lesser calamint. Notes of tobacco, mountain pine, and forest underbrush complete the bouquet. On the palate, it confirms richness and persistence, marked by a uniquely structured tannin profile. Its classical elegance, hallmark of the Bosco vineyard grapes, truly shines. If well stored, the bottle can retain its longevity for up to 50 years."
