What is Chablis Premier Cru?
Chablis is Chardonnay grown in the cool, chalky north of Burgundy, made without the heavy oak you find further south, so it tastes of citrus, white flowers, wet-stone and oyster shell minerality. Premier Cru comes from named, better-exposed slopes that add power and depth while keeping that signature freshness. It sits above village Chablis and just below Grand Cru in terms of quality and price.
Our Chablis Premier Cru: Domaine des Trois V
Trois V make several Premier Cru, each from a different slope, so you can taste how the site shapes the wine. The Vaugiraut catches a lot of sun and gives a powerful, aromatic wine with persistent minerality, and its 2023 release was selected for the prestigious Cave de Prestige by the Bourgogne Wine Board. The Vaucoupin, from a punishingly steep slope, is the razor-sharp one, all apricots, citrus, white flowers and a hint of honey. The Vosgros strikes a perfect balance, keeping the steely minerality we all love from Chablis while carrying wonderfully ripe Chardonnay fruit, it also introduces 50% oak ageing to support that weight.
