Domaine de la Fontainerie Sec "Coteau La Fontainerie" 2006 AOC Vouvray 750mL
The namesake Coteau La Fontainerie vineyard, meaning hill of the Fontainerie (maker of fountains), is a tiny vineyard of 1.7ha. The roots of the vines can be seen from inside the limestone cellar in which the wine rests before it is shipped to us. The vineyard is the oldest of the estate, with the majority of vines 55 years old and around 1/4 aged 35 years. Catherine uses new oak for this wine, so expect a rounder feel than the other dry wines of the Domaine and an excellent capacity for ageing.
The 2006 is a dry ("sec") wine, with just 2.3g/L of residual sugar. Is has a lovely and typical high acid for a clean mouthfeel, and the nuttiness you should come to expect from bottles that have spent serious time in Catherine's cave in Vouvray, but the utterly unique marker of this wine is a curry leaf note. For that reason we love to pair it with south Indian food, but some might also find it similar to a bay leaf / bechamel flavour, so there's plenty of cuisine options that will suit it perfectly.
