Our favourite neighbourhood hangout when we visit Adelaide: Lune.

On with the list, starting...

...in the City:

1. Allegra Dining Room - $50 corkage. All seatings. Book here. Plant based magic. Your dietary preferences don't matter when the food is this good. $50 corkage demands something out of the ordinary. Aged Vouvray? Take something from the Domaine de La Fontainerie range.

2. Etica - $30 corkage. All seatings. Book here. Just downstairs from sister restaurant Allegra you'll find excellent Napoletana style pizza. Take a pizza wine, but make it fancy. Maybe a Riserva Chianti Classico from Tregole?

3. Golden Boy - $20 corkage. All seatings. Book here. After more than a decade serving up contemporary Thai on the corner of North Terrace and East Terrace, Golden Boy is a real BYO institution. Riesling from Kuentz-Bas will do the trick. The only question for you is Grand Cru or not Grand Cru?

4. Kiin - $30 corkage. Tues - Wed Dinner. Book here. Modern Asian, with lots of delicious seafood on offer. Bring a bottle of Grower Champagne from  Godin et Filles.

5. Peel Street - $30 corkage. All seatings. Book here. We eat here on most of our Adelaide visits. It's always great. Vosgros Premier Cru Chablis from  Domaine des Trois V or the Anthemis Etna Bianco from Monteleone would be versatile enough for the snacks, small plates or chook.

6. Press* Food and Wine - $45 corkage, max 2 bottles per table. All seatings. Book here. We've been meaning to ask what the asterisk means, but it never seems important enough once we sit down at this modern European wonder on Waymouth Street. They have a great wine list, and a punchy corkage charge, so make your BYO selection something great. If you're likely to order the steak - take one of the world's greatest Sangioveses from Il Colle di Carli.

 

In the 'burbs:

7. Bar Lune and Eatery (Beulah Park) - $45 corkage (as long as it's not already on their list - but you wouldn't do that would you?). All seatings. Book here. A bit of a favourite of ours because it just happens to be our old stomping ground of the eastern suburbs. Great modern food to share with solid wine list leaning SA (why wouldn't it?). We'd take a Timorasso from Cecilia Monte.

8. Parwana (Torrensville) - You don't need to know the corkage charge because it feeds the homeless. All seatings. Book here. Head west for a delicious Afghan feast. You've got to try Parwana at least once and you should take any of the non-Riesling Alsace whites from  Kuentz-Bas to handle all of the spice and fragrant dishes. (Well, you could take a Riesling, but you should also be adventurous sometimes.)

 

In the wine regions:

Because it's Adelaide, and it's so easy to duck out to world class wine regions from the city, we've added a few of our favourite Barossa and Mclaren Vale spots.

9. Ferment Asian (Tanunda)- $30 corkage. One bottle per booking. All seatings. Book here. This is a must visit if you're staying in the Barossa. With an EPIC wine list, don't worry if you can only get there for a non-BYO seating, but if you do, take a demi-sec Vouvray from Domaine de La Fontainerie to pair perfectly with the Vietnamese fusion menu.

10. The Salopian Inn (Mclaren Vale) - $30 corkage. All seatings. Book here. Locally sourced, seasonal menu, welcoming country hospitality. Any great restaurant in a wine region will have a great wine list and this is one of the best. If you've tasted Grenache and Shiraz all day and need something different, take a Pinot Noir that a South Australian would love (we can vouch for that) from Domaine Sohler.
