His grandmother and mother managed the vineyards and cellar before he took over, and his daughter is waiting in the wings, so in this case we were happy to make an exception to our focus on female winemakers. While the barolos are excellent and need no introduction, we think the other reds in the Cagliero range are worth your attention too. You can imagine with those extraordinary requirements, only the very best fruit will result in a complex and balanced wine. We weren’t looking for a dolcetto on our piedmont scouting trips, but this wine changed our minds. It’s a must try. You wouldn’t usually age dolcetto, and we think this is best drunk now, but it’ll be great for a few more years without a problem. There are very few single vineyard Barolo that can claim residence of two communes, but this is one of them.
